Helen writes Markham what seems to be another love letter of sorts. She discusess how upset she is that he is ill and wants to try and see him. She said she would come with Mrs. Sangree to see him.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
